Class Three Prepare to be Evacuated!

dig for victoryToday Class Three visited Holdenby House as part of their World War 2 topic, and experienced life in 1942 at the height of the War and prepared to be evacuated from the big city into the villages to be safe.

They met Mrs Norton and Stella, who checked our Identity Cards as we entered. They were a little suspicious of Max and Heidi, as their names sounded a little too German for their liking. They were even more so when they noticed their blonde hair and blue eyes!

During the morning, the children prepared food with their rations (making sure not to waste anything!) and learnt about what to do during an air raid. They were fascinated by the baby's gas marks, but the sound of the gas attack warning hurt their ears a little!

Afterwards, the children attempted to complete some civilian first aid training, how do you treat someone with a shrapnel wound to the head? Class Three know now!

After lunch we learnt how to make do and mend, we made some pom-poms and cut up some newspaper and put it on a string. I wonder what that was used for?

The children then learnt "Run Rabbit Run" and were given instructions on how to impress their new host families, before the children sang God Save the King and headed to their new villages in Old and Althorpe.

Here are some pictures of our day.
